See the Kayaks that are available
at the Four Seasons
Please follow this simple procedures when using a kayak.
- It is better to get help in removing or
replacing the kayak from the rack. If you have to do it
yourself, reach over the bottom of the kayak and grab the edge of
the rim. Slide the kayak towards you and then remove it from the
rack. Carry it to the beach area for launching.
- Personalize your cockpit.
- The leg rests are easy to set. You legs
should be slightly bent, not out straight.
- The seat has 3 adjustments for your comfort.
Play with it until you feel comfortable. You should feel like
you can rock the kayak with your hips and provide a solid base
for rotating you trunk as you paddle. This by the way is great
exercise for firming up your core as they say.
- Choose a paddle that is the same length as
you vertical reach (that would be you with you hand straight up
in the air). This is at least a good rule of thumb, but a
paddle that is shorter is better than one that is too long for
you.
- Please wear a PFD (personal floatation
device or life preserver), which are available in the grey and
green storage bind. If it is wet when you return, place it on
the rack to dry, and when it is dry return it to the bind.
- These kayaks are very stable (as far as
kayaks go), but kayaks can flip.
- Please replace the kayak and
paddle(s) when you are finished paddling.
If you want basic help with kayaking, you can ask me.
I can help with the basics like: the best way to get into a kayak
without rolling it, basic strokes etc.. But, most of the
guests have been first time kayakers and they just got in and paddled
away without much fanfare. It is easier than you might think.
It is kind of a natural motion. However, if you want expert
instruction, it is available in the area and I will be happy to give you
some contacts. There are also a number of vendors in the area who
will giver you information and advice if you are interested in buying a
kayak.
